First new Incubus post!!
Hello, and thanks for checking out the new and even-way-more-awesome Incubus blog at 451Press.com!!!! A little bit about me, so you know who I am, and what’ I’m about. I’m a 28 year old eclectic music fan who plays drums, bass, and guitar, and I co-own my own record label, Coverall Records, based in Grand Rapids, MI. I love all types of music, from Sinatra to Mr Bungle and everything in between. I’m into snow/skateboarding, motocross, fast bikes, tattoos, and margaritas in the sun.
The first blog here I thought I would focus on some of the background of Incubus, and where they came from, in case you didn’t know.
Part 1
Incubus was formed in 1990 by Brandon Boyd and Jose Pasillas while the two were in junior high school together in Calabasas, CA. Also attending the same school was Mike Einziger, and the three would later meet Alex Katunich who played bass in the Jazz Band at Calabasas High. The trio played some local high school parties and did mostly cover songs until they discovered the incredible talent in Brandon’s voice and started writing their own songs. The first of which was “Lovesick”. The first booked party gig they had was for a friend named Kristen, which turned out disasterously. Jose knocked over his entire drumset, mid-song, but they played on anyway. It was just before this show that the name “Incubus” was decided upon after Mike got out a thesaurus and found that word. Months later they even played in their high school lunchroom.
Luck struck them when Mike found a $100 bill on the ground — they used it to book The Roxy, an all-ages venue.
