How does Incubus do in Europe?
Part 5 in the history of Incubus
Inubus went on tour with Shootyz Groove and Phunk Junkees before jumping on with 311 and Sugar Ray. It was only expected that Incubus would play the United States dates with 311 and Sugar Ray, but the overwhelmingly positive response that they recieved encouraged 311 to ask Incubus along for the overseas leg of the tour as well.
In 1998, DJ Lyfe was asked to leave the band, and replaced him with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native DJ Chris Kilmore, who eventually joined on a permanent basis. The Productive Tour with 311, Sugar Ray, and a new DJ, Incubus was right back on the road again with bands like Far, One Minute Silence, Cold, Limp Bizkit, Tool, old friends Snot, Coal Chamber, Ultraspank, System Of A Down for the duration of summer 1998. In October 1998, they headed out on tour with HedPe, Snot, and Soulfly, and eventually joined up with System Of A Down and Dial 7 on October 25th to finish the last 4 dates of the Family Values Tour in place of Ice Cube. (I remember seeing Incubus in Kalamazoo, MI on this tour. Incubus was new to the scene, and I distinctly remember Incubus rocking out like no other. I was pretty impressed. I’ve been a fan ever since.) The success of the band on tour proved to be compliation worthy, and they landed a song, “New Skin” on the Family Values complation and finished out the year on tour with Orgy, Korn, HedPe, 2 Skinny J’s, Frontside, and Papa Roach.
Starting early in 1999, Incubus went on Tour with rock legends Black Sabbath until March, and then promtly headed into the studio to record “Make Yourself” which was released on October 26th 1999. Immediately after its release, they went on tour with Primus and guitar virtuoso Buckethead, which took them up to the end of the year.
